Surprise!

December 2014 was a whirlwind of a month. We found out that we were expecting! We were so shocked but also very excited!

On December 1, 2014 we were grocery shopping like we do every week. I was 3 days late, which I had been thinking it was really weird and that something might be up. We had passed by the pregnancy tests and I whispered to Jacob that I think we should take one. He just rolled his eyes, he didn't think anything was up. Well did you know that at Kroger they are in these lock boxes? ---We live in a small town and we know several people who work at Kroger and we were not about to ask them to open a pregnancy test lock box for us.-- So we stopped at Walgreens on the way home (they do not have them in lock boxes by the way!) On the way home, I had to pee the whole way, so as soon as we got all the groceries in, I went to take THE test. Well not three seconds after I peed on that little stick did it have two little pink lines telling me that I was indeed pregnant! Jacob was putting the groceries away when I called him into the bathroom to see the stick...he came in there, looked at it and shook his head no and walked out. He was shocked just as I was.
We were having a BABY!

This came a bit of a shock for us because a week before I had gone to my doctor and she was telling me that it would be hard for me to conceive because my endometriosis was still active, and that I was most likely going to have surgery to remove some of the endometrium. Little did we know we were already pregnant, I guess I was too early to register on the test at the doctor. We of course freaked out a little at first, but after a while we realized how excited we were.

On December 15th, we went to my doctor to confirm the pregnancy and make sure everything was ok. My doctor came in and immediately hugged me and shook Jacob's hand. She stated that she was so excited for us and told me that everything happens for a reason and aren't we lucky. (YES, yes we are!) She confirmed that indeed we were pregnant. I got a welcome bag and they took some blood to test my hormone levels.

I went back to the doctor that Friday, December 19th. I wasn't feeling well so I was hoping everything was as it should be. I had my first ultrasound and everything looked great, they said I was measuring at 7 weeks exactly. That little dot on the screen was my baby, I couldn't believe it! I got to hear the baby's heartbeat too, a strong 157 bpm. After waiting a little bit after the ultrasound I saw my doctor.

My doctor explained to me that my progesterone levels were lower than they wanted and that they were going to put me on a supplement to reduce my risk of miscarriage. Then she looked at me really good and said, "girl, I think you might have the flu." (Great! just what I needed at 7 weeks pregnant!) She told me that I needed to go to the doctor immediately leaving her office.

I did just that, I went across the street to a convenient care place, where I waited 2 hours for them to confirm that I did indeed have the flu. GREAT! I immediately went to pick up my medicine and went home to rest....I didn't get out of bed for 4 days, except to get something to eat, drink, or use the bathroom. Jacob was wonderful and took great care of me when he was home from work. I was so nervous having the flu and being pregnant. I was so scared that something was going to go wrong, but I made it through, and am happy to report that baby and me are happy and healthy.

We can't wait to meet you LBA. We love you so much already.
